Brittney, bloggerMy name is Brittney, and I teach special education in Pilot Station, Alaska.

Pilot Station is a rural village of 594 people on the Yukon River. It is part of Bush Alaska, which means there are no roads in or out of the village. It is accessible only by bush plane or boat (when the river isn’t frozen).

Great Wide 49 is named after the state of Alaska, which is the 49th state. It’s also named after a line from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast: I want adventure in the great, wide somewhere.

This blog chronicles my move, my experience teaching and living in rural Alaska, and my 30 before 30 adventures.
